Crop Walk
On Sunday, October 19, 2003, St. James School will
be participating in the Red Bank Crop Walk. This community
event consists of participants collecting pledges for
a six-mile walk through the towns of Fair Haven, Little
Silver, Shrewsbury and Red Bank. The money raised by
the Crop Walk is used for aid throughout the world;
however, special attention will be directed this year
to the plight of the refugee and homeless populations.
Twenty-five percent of the money raised is returned
to local area partners including, Lunch Break, Habcore,
Manna House and the Monmouth Day Care Center.
October 19th is also the day of the canonization
of Mother Teresa who showed a special love for the
poorest of the poor. Participating in the Crop Walk
would be a great way to honor her spirit….so
if you are in the 6th, 7th or 8th grade, sign up
to make a difference in the lives of those suffering
from hunger, homelessness and poverty. Community
service hours are available. Keep your eyes open
for more information or contact Susan Ryan at (732)
530-8064 if you are interested in participating.
“We walk because they walk – because
millions of people around the world walk every day
for food, for shelter, for water, for survival.”
