_PTA Fee Exempt Position Descriptions

We have 90-100 positions available, to ensure we provide our students with the best Saint James Elementary School has to offer.  Parents interested in these positions must submit a request via the website no later than June 30, 2016 and must commit to be VIRTUS trained and Fingerprinted by the beginning of the school year. Families selected for these fee-exempt positions will be notified by mid-July. This position runs from August 1, 2016 through June 16, 2017.   The following is a list of available positions:

AM Monitors

Each day two adult volunteers are required from 7:30am – 8:00am to be onsite during drop-off to assist with the students before they head to class.  We have 10 positions available (2 per day x 5 days per week).  Volunteers will be required to commit to a full-year, coming once per week on their assigned day.

Lunchroom Aides

Each day four adult volunteers are required from 11:50am – 1:10pm to assist students (including sweeping the floors and wiping the tables) during the three lunch periods.  We have 20 positions available (4 per day x 5 days per week).  Volunteers will be required to commit to a full-year, coming once per week on their assigned day.

Playground Monitors

Each day four adult volunteers are required from 12:10pm – 1:10pm to monitor students during their recess periods.  We have 20 positions available (4 per day x 5 days per week).  Volunteers will be required to commit to a full-year, coming once per week on their assigned day.

Nurse’s Office Aides

Each day one volunteer is required from 12:00pm – 1:30pm to assist the Nurse during the busy lunch/playground periods.  We have 5 positions available (1 day x 5 days per week).  Volunteers will be required to commit to a full-year, coming once per week on their assigned day.

Grade Parents

Each grade will have a minimum of 2 grade parents, and their responsibilities, outlined below, will exempt them from the $300 PTA fee.

Grade parents’ responsibilities will include:

  • A personal, welcome phone call to each parent in the grade.

  • A meeting with the teacher(s) in the beginning of the year to see how best to assist the teacher in communicating group messages to parents.

  • The creation of an email list of all parents in the grade, allowing regular communication for grade parents and the teachers.

  • Organizing grade parties as directed by the teachers.

  • Attend 3 mandatory grade parent meetings (summer, mid-year and end of year) to share feedback and suggested improvements as well as monthly PTA meetings.

  • Work as liaison between the PTA Officers and Executive Board and the parents by recruiting the parents to assist with programs run by the PTA, faculty and SJAA (when needed).

  • Grade parents will be required to solicit and enlist volunteers who can assist with PTA-driven programs.

  • Parents who are recruited by their grade parent to assist at these events will not receive exemption from the PTA fee, these volunteer opportunities are strictly ‘voluntary’.  Parents who have other fee exempt roles are welcome to assist with any other volunteer opportunities.

  • Grade parents will receive a full orientation program and assistance in establishing the process needed to make the program a success.

Book Fair & After School Clubs

These two programs are both very important to our Students.  Our Book Fair Chair and the two After-School Club Chairs will receive exemption from the PTA Fee.  Additional Volunteers will be needed to assist with these programs, and Grade Parents will help recruit volunteers wishing to be involved.
