“I Want My Mummy” - get your tickets now!
When we think of everyday drama, we usually worry it’s about something negative. That’s not the case at Saint James Elementary School. For more than a decade, middle grade students have been debuting in sensational, way off Broadway musical comedy productions of popular plays. Under the guidance of faculty Directors Barbara Oakerson, Fran Byrne, and Susan Signoriello, the students are given an opportunity to develop and hone their God given singing, dancing, and acting talents through membership in the school’s Drama Club. This year’s musical comedy titled, “I Want My Mummy” opens to the sounds of screams and the banging of castle doors at Castle Frankenstein with a colorful cast of characters. Come see the play. The two performances are Friday April 7th at 7 pm and Saturday April 8th at 7:30 pm at the Broad Street Auditorium. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students. It may not be Broadway, but you never know if one of these gifted students may someday be performing there.

Saint James Elementary School Receives $10,000 Grant from OceanFirst Foundation
Saint James School was proudly presented the 2016 Grant Recipient of OceanFirst Model Classroom. The school has been awarded $10,000 to create a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Lab classroom. The grant will be used to facilitate STEM curriculum and purchase furniture and equipment needed for the new STEM Lab. Saint James School recognizes the need to provide our students with a strong STEM skill set needed to succeed in future educational endeavors and careers. The creation of the STEM Lab will provide students with an environment where students can explore and discover new learnings through hands on experiences. The goal of the 2016 Model Classroom Grant Program is to support bold and innovative schools that have the vision, creativity and desire to develop model classrooms for learning. The grants support schools that are committed to creating and promoting a culture of academic excellence, improving and enhancing classroom instruction and want to embrace new technology, tools and training that adds value to the learning experience and helps improve student achievement.

The OceanFirst Foundation has a long history of supporting education and they have awarded $150,000 in grants to fifteen local schools, a total of 86 local schools applied. Saint James School was one of five elementary schools awarded $10,000 grant in the elementary school category. Saint James will use their grant to create a designated STEM Lab from an outdated school library, providing our middle school students the opportunity to become 21st century problem solvers, innovators, creators and collaborators.

“I am thankful to the OceanFirst Foundation, our teachers for their enthusiasm and progressive thinking with respect to instruction, our students for their desire to learn and challenge themselves, our parents for supporting the school’s efforts, and a special thank you to Mrs. Golden Vice-Principal for writing the grant proposal. The financial award will go a long way towards redesigning an outdated library into a fully equipped STEM Lab,” Saint James Principal Mrs. JoAnn Giordano explained.
